The Gaspereau Press ‘The Library a Wilderness’ by Henry David Thoreau

This little gem from Gaspereau Press just showed up on my doorstep:

I love some Thoreau and I love affordable little books printed letterpress and hand-bound by artisans like Andrew Steeves. How much do I love Thoreau? My son’s name is Gregory Thoreau. (I get grief from my daughter for not giving her a literary name…she should have been Kaelyn Whitman…)

Little books like these give Steeves an outlet to practice letterpress techniques and all the other crafts and skills that go into handmade books in the breaks and stolen moments between the quality trade books that the press turns out. And gives a fine press lover like me an outlet when the big books from so many presses are out of my reach.

Just that title page is a thing of beauty. Three of my favorite words: Thoreau, Library, & Wilderness.

You can check it out and purchase for this beautiful book three Jacksons US ($60) at the press’ website here.
